Children are the future of our society and we are the guardians of their smiles. All kinds of dental treatment are available for infants, children and adolescents under one roof at SnazzySmiles Pedodontics and Adult Oral Rehab Zone.
Child psychology and behaviour management form the crux of treating children, leading to a calm and peaceful state of mind while undergoing treatment, resulting in vibrant smiles thereafter.
Prevention of cavities by dietary and oral hygiene counselling and fluoride, sealant and preventive resin application is recommended. Paediatric restorations, root canals, surgeries, space maintenance for the unerupted teeth, rehabilitation of cleft lip and palate children are very skilfully managed using the latest technology by the dental team at SnazzySmiles. A sequential step by step treatment approach is followed for management of the developmentally compromised children and those with special needs.
Pit and Fissure Sealants
Dental pit and fissure sealants are a precautionary treatment. This thin plastic coating fills in the crevices and tiny indentations that naturally occur in teeth and eliminate places for bacteria to breed. Polyacid-modified, resin-based composite material, which is also referred to as compomer, has been used as a fissure sealant. Its effectiveness has been greatly contributed by its longevity of clinical survival. Clinical trials reported more than 80% complete retention of sealant after 2 years and 70% after 3 years in permanent molars.
Space maintainers:
A space maintainer is a dental appliance made of metal or acrylic. Its function is to simply maintain the space that is created by a lost tooth while a child is waiting for the permanent tooth to grow in.
Ideally, of course, the perfect space maintainer is a natural one—the original baby tooth. If a baby tooth is lost prematurely, due to severe decay, trauma, disease, or if it has been missing since the child was born, the muscles and bones in the jaw may not develop correctly in order to properly admit the new, permanent tooth. In such instances, the child may need to have a space maintainer placed by a dentist.
Appliances for habit breaking
A few habits that are acceptable in a young child may not be desirable as the child grows older, viz: thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, lip biting, nail biting, mouth breathing and finger biting to name a few. Habit breaking appliances are made by dentists to discontinue the habits especially in children. If these habits are allowed to continue, they can result in gum disease, change in position of the teeth and change in position of the jaws.
Dental trauma and emergency care
Emergencies in Dental Practice can occur at anytime and anywhere. Dental trauma is injury to the mouth, including teeth, lips, gums, tongue, and jawbones. Soft tissue injuries to the mouth and dental trauma are typically very painful and should receive prompt treatment. During an injury, a tooth may be pushed sideways, out of or into its socket. A dentist will reposition and stabilize your tooth. Root canal treatment is usually needed for permanent teeth that have been dislodged and should be started immediately or several days following the injury. A dental splint may be required to stabilize the mobile tooth/teeth for several days.
Mouthguards
Mouthguards, also called mouth protectors, help cushion a blow to the face, minimizing the risk of broken teeth and injuries to your lips, tongue, face or jaw. They typically cover the upper teeth and are a great way to protect the soft tissues of your tongue, lips and cheek lining. When it comes to protecting your mouth, a mouthguard is an essential piece of athletic gear that should be part of your standard equipment from an early age. In fact, studies show that athletes are 60 times more likely to suffer harm to the teeth if they’re not wearing a mouthguard.
There are three types of mouthguards: the custom fitted one which is made especially for you by your dentist, the stock one which is ready made but not fit very well and the boil and bite one which can be soaked in warm water and adapted to an individual's mouth.
Feeding appliances for cleft lip and palate child
A child born with cleft lip and/or cleft palate may cause physical and psychological upheaval in the family. It causes enormous feeding problems for the new born and needs immediate remedy. An intermediate treatment of an appliance (obturator) may help solve the problem of feeding till at a particular age, a surgical procedure for correction of clefts can be undertaken.
Fluoride applications
Diets high in acidic foods and beverages, general gum recession, and increased use of whitening products all tend to produce sensitive teeth. Fluoride treatments re-mineralize tooth enamel and reduce that sensitivity. Dentists provide professional fluoride treatments in the form of a highly concentrated rinse, foam, gel, or varnish. The treatment may be applied with a swab, brush, tray, or mouthwash. These treatments have much more fluoride than what's in your water or toothpaste. They only take a few minutes to apply.
Tooth coloured restorative material:
The composite resin that is used in tooth-coloured fillings bonds to the teeth. This means that we do not have to remove as much natural tooth structure, as we would with silver amalgam or gold fillings. This allows us to more conservatively treat your cavity and maintain more of your natural tooth structure.
Restorative dentistry (tooth colored restorations)/ Esthetic Dentistry
The composite resin that is used in tooth-colored fillings bonds to the teeth. This means that we do not have to remove as much natural tooth structure, as we would with silver amalgam or gold fillings. This or cosmetic purpose.
Root Canal Treatment:
Root canal is a treatment to repair and save a badly damaged or infected tooth instead of removing it. The term "root canal" comes from cleaning of the canals inside a tooth's root which is intended to result in the elimination of infection and the protection of the decontaminated tooth from future microbial invasion.
Post and core buildup of teeth
When a tooth is severely decayed or have very little structure, the remaining tooth can be too small to support a dental crown. This is an indication that a post or core buildup is required. Both procedures buildup the tooth structure for a crown.
Dental Bleaching
Tooth whitening or dental bleaching is either restoration of natural tooth shade or whitening beyond natural tooth shade. Restoration of the underlying, natural tooth shade is possible by simply removing surface (extrinsic) stains (e.g. from tea, coffee, red wine and tobacco) and calculus (tartar). This is achieved by having the teeth cleaned by a dental professional (commonly termed "scaling and polishing"), or at home by various oral hygiene methods. Calculus is difficult to remove without a professional clean. Stains on the teeth can be seen either as yellowish to brownish to blackish. They may occur either due to smoking or chewing tobacco or excessive intake of beverages like tea or coffee. They can be lightened in shade or may be completely removed by the procedure called "office teeth bleaching."
To whiten the natural tooth shade, bleaching is suggested. It is a common procedure in cosmetic dentistry, and a number of different techniques are used by dental professionals. Many different products are also marketed for home use. Techniques include bleaching strips, bleaching pen, bleaching gel, and laser tooth whitening. Bleaching methods generally use carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. There are claims that carbamide peroxide is less effective than hydrogen peroxide, but also has fewer side effects. Common side effects of bleaching are increased sensitivity of the teeth and irritation of the gums.
Dental Veneer
A veneer is a thin shell that is similar to an artificial fingernail
attached to the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance. They’re often made from porcelain or resin-composite materials and are permanently bonded to your teeth.
Veneers can be used to treat a number of different cosmetic concerns, including chipped, broken, discolored, or smaller-than-average teeth. It bonds to the front of the tooth with dental cement.
Dental Laminate
Dental laminate (Porcelain laminate which are known as Porcelain veneers) is a thin shell which is designed by tooth colored material based on the individual's need. These shells are bonded to the front surface of the teeth in order to change their color, shape, size, or length and improve the appearance. Laminates unlike the natural teeth, are resistant to tea and coffee stains because of using high technology materials for making them. Laminates are even thinner than veneers. These shells are about the width of a contact lens.
Dental Bridge
A dental bridge is a material that can fill the gap with one or more artificial (false) teeth. A bridge is typically made of crowns on either side of the missing tooth or teeth supporting the pontic (false tooth) and is cemented in place. A bridge can be all metal bridge, Porcelain fused to metal bridge or all ceramic (Zirconia bridge)
Dental Crowns
Dental crowns like Dental bridges are caps placed on top of damaged teeth. They are used to protect, cover and restore the shape of your teeth when fillings don’t solve the problem. Dental crowns can be made out of metals, porcelain fused to metal and ceramics (Zircon).
Complete dentures
Dentures, also known as false teeth, are artificial prosthetic devices constructed to replace missing teeth. A Complete Denture is a removable prosthesis that replaces all teeth within an arch; they may be upper denture, lower denture or both upper and lower complete dentures.
Types of Complete Dentures
Tooth extraction (removal)
Tooth extraction is the removal of teeth from the socket in the alveolar bone. Extractions are performed when teeth become unrestorable through tooth decay, periodontal disease, or dental trauma, especially when they are associated with toothache. They are also removed to gain space in case of orthodontic treatment for normal teeth alignment.
Wisdom tooth removal
Wisdom teeth are the last of your teeth to appear (erupt) in the mouth. Sometimes a wisdom tooth becomes stuck below the surface of your gums (impacted), and grows at an odd angle, possibly causing complications. Wisdom tooth pain is usually quite intense. It often feels like pain in the back of your mouth or at your jaw. Other people experience throbbing feelings or pressure in the back of their mouths.
TISSUE BIOPSY
“A DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE WHEREBY TISSUE OR CELLULAR MATERIAL IS REMOVED FROM THE LIVING ORGANISM FOR THE PURPOSE OF MICROSCOPIC EXAMINATION AND TO PREPARE A DESCRIPTION OF HISTOLOGICAL FINDINGS.”
EXCISIONAL BIOPSY
TOTAL EXCISION OF A SMALL LESION.
PREFERRED IF THE SIZE OF LESION IS LESS THAN 1 CMS. AND IT MAY BE REMOVED ALONG WITH A MARGIN OF NORMAL TISSUE AND THE WOUND CAN BE CLOSED PRIMARILY.
INCISIONAL BIOPSY
IF THE LESION IS LARGE (> 1.5-2 CMS) AND DIFFUSE, ONLY SMALL SECTION OF PATHOLOGICALLY ALTERED TISSUE ALONG WITH ADJACENT NORMAL TISSUE IS REMOVED FOR EXAMINATION.
TWO OR MORE BIOPSIES SHOULD BE HARVESTED
PUNCH BIOPSY
SPECIAL BIOPSY INSTRUMENT- PUNCH BIOPSY INSTRUMENT IS USED. IT IS SHARPNED HOLLOW TUBE LIKE STRUCTURE.
PRODUCE SMALL SURGICAL DEFECT & DOSE NOT REQUIRE SUTURING.
BRUSH BIOPSY
A DISPOSABLE BRUSH IS USED TO COLLECT THE SAMPLE OF CELLS FROM THE EPITHELIUM.
THE SAMPLE IS SCREENED BY COMPUTER & REVIEWED BY PATHOLOGIST FOR FINAL DIAGNOSIS.
FINE NEEDLE ASPIRATION CYTOLOGY
ASPIRATE OBTAINED BY INSERTING A FINE NEEDLE INTO THE LESION.
IT IS A PAINLESS AND SAFE PROCEDURE FOR RAPID DIAGNOSIS.
EXFOLIATIVE CYTOLOGY
STUDY OF THE CELL WHICH EXFOLIATE OR ABRADED FROM THE BODY SURFACE.
WHEN THE EPITHELIUM BECOMES SEAT OF ANY PATHOLOGICAL CONDITION,THE CELLS MAY LOOSE THEIR COHESIVENESS AND GET SHED OFF.
THESE EXFOLIATED CELLS AS WELL AS CELLS SCRAPPED BY MEANS OF SPECIFIC INSTRUMENTS CAN BE STUDIED.
Dental Implants
Dental Implants: the third dentition in dental care.... are used for tooth replacement, single/multiple units or implant supported removable or fixed prostheses or dentures. Modern dental implants are precision devices, available in several different designs to address your specific needs. The most common type is a titanium screw that is anchored into the jawbone where it serves as a post for a custom-made tooth crown. Once the crown is in place you may not even be able to tell it apart from your natural tooth.
Biopsies of suspicious, precancerous lesions and tumours is done, and a laboratory report provided for needful patients.

Plaque is a sticky film of bacteria that constantly forms on teeth. Bacteria in plaque produce acids after you eat or drink. These acids can destroy tooth enamel and cause cavities and gingivitis (gum disease). Plaque can also develop under the gums on tooth roots and break down the bones that support teeth.
Dental calculus is calcified dental plaque, composed primarily of calcium phosphate mineral salts deposited between and within remnants of formerly viable microorganisms. A viable dental plaque covers mineralized calculus deposits.
Treatment of gums and periodontium requires thorough cleaning (scaling and polishing, root planing) and/ or certain minor surgical procedures to remove excess gums, pockets, infections and deep rooted plaque and calculus.
Braces are used to correct the crooked teeth within the jaws. They are generally preferred to position tooth or teeth in their specific positions for cosmetic as well as functional purpose. The best time to start orthodontic treatment is teenage as maximum growth spurts occur during this age and more positive results are expected during this time. The various types of orthodontic braces use different materials. They are the traditional ones using nickel chromium material, the ceramic ones using a tough ceramic material and the clear aligners that uses a transparent material especially for those who are cosmetic conscious.
